New Mussoorie Bypass Route: State authorities have announced a strategic bypass route to Mussoorie in anticipation of increased tourist influx following the completion of the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway in 2025. The alternative route, though 40-50 kilometers longer, aims to prevent traffic congestion in Dehradun city and ensure smoother travel for visitors.

- The bypass will be activated during peak tourist seasons and heavy traffic conditions
- Route will primarily serve traffic from Roorkee, Haridwar, and Saharanpur
- Path includes Shimla bypass, Nayagaon, Bhauwala Chowk, Manduwala, Aamwala, Kalagarh, Garhi Cantt, and Kimadi
- Return route encompasses Bhatta Tiraha, Kirsaali Chowki, Sahastradhara crossing, and Jogiwala
- One-way system to be implemented for better traffic management
Infrastructure Development Plans:

Current Challenges:
- Mussoorie’s parking capacity limited to 5,000 vehicles
- Daily tourist vehicle influx exceeds 10,000 during peak season
- Expected significant increase in visitors post-expressway completion
Director of Traffic, Arun Mohan Joshi, emphasized that while the alternative route may be longer, it offers several advantages: “The bypass ensures continuous traffic flow and allows visitors to avoid city congestion completely. We’re also exploring additional routes for long-term solutions.”
